Bio
Jay S. Norton, former Chief of the Criminal Trial Division of the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, is a San Antonio native with over 35 years of experience practicing law.
Jay received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from St. Mary’s University and his Juris Doctorate from St. Mary’s University – School of Law. He began his legal career in 1985 at Bexar County Legal Aid.
In late 1986, Jay joined the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney. Jay served in this position for six years before entering private practice as a criminal defense attorney. Jay has successfully tried hundreds of cases as both a prosecutor and defense attorney, in both state and federal courts.
He would later return to the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office after Nico LaHood’s election in 2014, where he rose to the leadership role as a section chief.
As a District Attorney section chief, his responsibilities included the daily supervision, training, and mentoring of all Assistant Criminal District Attorneys assigned to the felony trial courts of Bexar County.
Jay has extensive trial experience encompassing all classes and degrees of criminal cases, including the most serious felony offenses under Texas law.
